چکیده

Aim Mounting global pressure on bird populations from invasive predators and habitat loss has driven a rapid growth in restoration conservation action around the world, yet efficacy of such actions is still not well understood. We investigated relative interactive effects predator control fragmentation abundance native birds mammalian forest fragments. Location Waikato region, New Zealand. Methods sampled abundances using camera traps counts at 26 sites 15 fragments across Zealand's region. Fragment area, shape complexity surrounding land cover exotic were determined ArcMap. further created two composite gradients reflecting intensity temporal distribution based seven quantitative variables recorded each 5 years preceding data collection. Finally, we estimated influence these drivers mammals functional groups model averaging. Results Both significantly affected abundance. Landscape fragment structure often equally important abundances, but responses varied among mammal species. similarly abundance, though community markedly between groups. Main conclusions Our findings suggest that spatial extent area constrain numbers enhance especially for small insectivorous species, whilst other aspects are less least as communities. Consequently, both should be given strong consideration when undertaking landscape-scale communities human-altered landscapes threatened by predators.

Responses of Breeding Bird Communities to Forest Fragmentation

Field studies in eastern North America indicate that local densities of most forest-dwelling bird species are directly or indirectly influenced by forest insularization. Relevant site variables among those measured include patch area and isolation, tree stature and density, and development of herbaceous and shrub understorey. In general, highly migratory species that specialize on forest-interi...

The responses of horses to predator stimuli

It is not known whether the instincts of wild horses have remained strong during their centuries of domestication. Knowledge of this matter would give riders the opportunity to know more about the behavior of horses and consequently about safety for both horses and riders. In this current research, we studied the behavior of fifteen Caspian miniature horses of different ages and sexes using sti...

Landscape Responses of Bats to Habitat Fragmentation in Atlantic Forest of Paraguay

Understanding effects of habitat loss and fragmentation on populations or communities is critical to effective conservation and restoration. This is particularly important for bats because they provide vital services to ecosystems via pollination and seed dispersal, especially in tropical and subtropical habitats. Based on more than 1,000 h of survey during a 15-month period, we quantified spec...
